Thanksgiving, 2007
Dear friends,
This
years approach of the Winter Solstice finds Libana busily preparing to be
the featured artists in this years Balkan Christmas Revels at Harvard Universitys
historic Sanders Theater in Cambridge, MA. We
are learning powerfully exhilarating
songs and maniacal instrumental dance tunes from some of our favorite cultural
traditions, and are proud and excited to be part of this seasonal, celebratory
community arts event here in Boston. If you live anywhere in New England or are
planning a visit this holiday season, we hope to see you at one of the 18 performances
this December 14-30. Go to www.revels.org for tickets.
In between memorizing Bulgarian song lyrics and practicing dance music in 11/8 on the accordion, I find myself spending some quiet moments contemplating gratitude. My life is so wondrously full of great music, adventure, and purpose. I consider myself fortunate to be able to express my creative gifts through my lifes work and in service to the world. I am thankful for my close friends and sisters-in-purpose-the women of Libana, and I marvel at our longevity of connection and ever-deepening journey exploring the music and dance of the worlds women.
I take continued delight in the opportunities that present themselves to Libana, whether at home refining our Balkan music with our Bulgarian friend, coach, and singer extraordinaire Tatiana Sarbinska, or on the road connecting with a new Somali friend who, in courageously breaking a cultural silence, is helping other women in her Massachusetts community heal from the emotional and physical pain as survivors of female genital mutilation. As we travel bringing our performances and vision to communities and schools from Binghamton, NY to Corrales, NM, it is always inspiring to meet the many wonderful and passionate people also doing their own dedicated work to heal and bring peace to the world.
It is the abundant generosity
of hundreds
of our fans-people like you-whose donations help Libana
continue
to bring healing, visionary, and unifying music to listeners around the globe.
This year at Thanksgiving, I send our request to consider showing your support of Libanas music and mission by becoming a first-time donor, or by increasing the amount of your yearly donation. Your tax-deductible gift helps us-in countless large and small ways-to continue expanding our awareness of cultural expression and womens lives, and therefore Libanas influence in the world.
As
a thank you, contributors of $250 or more will receive
a pair of tickets to
the 2008 Libana concert of their choice!
With gratitude and blessings for a peaceful Winter Solstice,
Susan Robbins, Founder and Artistic Director of Libana
